Petition for not removing the group exams in Denmark
Kim Schulz, monday d. 5. december 2005
Group exams is probably the smartest move ever made by any university - dont kill them.
-- Kim Schulz Dec 2005
The Danish government has shown some serious signs of braindamage these last days.
Their latest move in relation to education is that they want to remove all group exams from elementary school, "highschool" (Gymnasium, HTX etc) and Universities.
Working in a group and being evaluated as the same group is a very important part for some of the universities in Denmark (Including Aalborg University where I study). And for a very good reason. Studies have shown that the Industry in Denmark prefer students with a group-minded education, simply because they fit better into the exsisting teams. So to just give 4 reasons why to not remove the group exams:
- In the real world we work in teams and often a team gets evaluated all together.
- By working in a group and get evaluated in a group you learn to argument you case - a property alot of post-uni persons lack.
- If you work in a group you agree on everything, so why split up the evaluated between the groupmembers so each of them does not get evaluated for everything.
- The good students lift up the less good students - yes it can be mis-used but normally the good students know when to kick the parasite-student.
So all in all. This is a freaking stupid idea and the government should try to get a more realistic picture of what happens around the contry and on the universities.
Everyone that understand the importance of why this shouldn't be changed should sign the petition agains it:
